Tim Hughes

As a third-generation Nevadan, graduate of the Clark County School District, alumnus of Teach For America, elected member of the State Board of Education, and nonprofit leader, Tim Hughes brings a wealth of experience to his role as Teach For America Nevada's incoming Executive Director.

Tim holds a bachelor's degree in Biology from the University of Nevada and has earned master's degrees in Science Education and School Leadership from Johns Hopkins University and California State University, East Bay. He began his educator journey as a Middle School Science Teacher with Baltimore City Public Schools as a TFA Baltimore corps member. Returning home to Las Vegas, Tim served as a Founding Program Director when Teach For America launched in Las Vegas in 2004.

Tim most recently worked at TNTP, serving as their Vice President-West where he led efforts to support states, systems, and schools to improve outcomes for students by focusing on academics, talent, community engagement, and change management. Before TNTP, he worked at Teach For America, where he was Vice President of the Teacher Preparation Team from 2012 to 2015, and earlier as Senior Managing Director at the Delta Institute. Tim's career also includes serving as a secondary principal and various teacher leader positions. 

Tim currently resides in Las Vegas, where he serves as an elected member of the Nevada State Board of Education, a role he has held since January 2021. When he is not working on issues related to education you can find Tim spending time with family and friends, hiking, exploring local restaurants, or working on home improvement projects. Tim and his partner Nichole are dog parents and lead a newly established Veterinary clinic in Las Vegas. He’s an alumnus of Leadership Las Vegas and was recently named as one of TFA NV’s 20 Most Impactful Leaders over the last 20 years.
