Instructional Coaching Fellowship - Teacher Cohort
The TFA Greater New Orleans Coaching Fellowship is a leadership development opportunity for experienced teachers who are both teaching in their schools and ready to expand their impact by coaching other teachers. We believe that teachers and leaders hold the key to a more equitable future for the children of Greater New Orleans. Our one-year fellowship is designed with the goal of developing effective instructional coaches whose leadership increases student achievement in classrooms across the city.
Apply for the 2025-26 Teacher Cohort by May 15.
Fellows participate in a professional development series held approximately once per month during the academic year. The scope and sequence are designed to equip Fellows with the interpersonal and technical skills needed to develop into effective teacher coaches. Each professional development session includes opportunities for collaboration, reflection, planning, and practice so that Fellows can immediately apply the learning to their coaching practice.
Examples of topics covered during the professional development series include:
- Building a strong coaching relationship
- Assigning action steps
- Observation debrief meetings
- Real-time feedback
- Data meetings
Fellows have the option to earn state Mentor Teacher certification as part of their work in the fellowship.
Fellows also receive in-person, individualized 1:1 biweekly coaching to support their development as a teacher coach. These meetings will include co-observations and debriefs focused on identifying high-leverage action steps and opportunities for real-time feedback.
Given the selective nature of the fellowship, we have established the following criteria for applicants:
- Experienced classroom teachers with a record of success in improving student outcomes
- Desire to expand educational impact beyond own classroom by coaching and developing other teachers
- Commitment to attending professional development outside of school hours
- Contribute to a strong Fellow culture by owning personal learning and supporting others to learn
Applications are open to both alumni of Teach For America and non-alumni who share in our commitment to expanding opportunities for all children.
School leaders must agree to participate in cost sharing for the program (fee is between $3,500-4,500; more information will be provided upon application).
Teacher Cohort Fellows receive a stipend for the time they commit to coaching 1-2 teachers at their school on a weekly basis, as well as for their commitment to attending professional development sessions outside of school hours.
Instructional Coaching Fellowship - Leader Cohort
The Instructional Coaching Fellowship Leader Cohort is a leadership development opportunity for mid-level instructional leaders whose primary responsibilities include coaching teachers. Our one-year fellowship is designed with the goal of developing effective instructional coaches whose leadership increases student achievement in classrooms across the city.
Enroll in the 2025-26 Leader Cohort by July 1.
Leader Cohort Fellows participate in a year-long in-person professional development series held once per month on a weekday. Sessions are held from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. with the exception of the first session, which is a full day of professional development. The scope and sequence are designed to equip Fellows with both the interpersonal and technical skills needed to develop into effective teacher coaches. Each professional development session includes opportunities for collaboration, reflection, planning, and practice so that Fellows can immediately apply the learning to their coaching practice.
Examples of topics covered during the professional development series include:
- Building a strong coaching relationship
- Assigning action steps
- Observation debrief meetings
- Real-time feedback
- Data meetings
All educators employed in a full-time leadership position whose responsibilities include instructional coaching are eligible to enroll in the leader cohort.
Both alumni of Teach For America and non-alumni who share in our commitment to expanding opportunities for all children are encouraged to join.
The school cost-sharing fee for this programming is $1,500 per leader.
“If you’re trying to grow leaders who can move teacher practice and student outcomes while keeping people at the center, this program delivers. It’s not fluff. It’s the kind of learning that sticks and shows up in classrooms.”
