With over two decades of experience, Michelle’s journey in education began as a 5th-grade teacher in Compton in the late 90s. She later joined Teach For America, playing a pivotal role in establishing its first national Teacher Support and Development team, focused on improving effectiveness and increasing diversity during a period of exponential growth.
Driven by her experience with the fastest improving school districts in the nation, Michelle strengthened her conviction in the pressing need for a fundamental redesign of the American public education system. With this inspiration, she founded the Reinvention Lab—an initiative that fosters collaboration with a multigenerational team to shape the future of education through innovative programs.
Additionally, during her tenure as Senior Vice President and Executive Vice President of Regional Operations, Michelle provided strategic oversight to Executive Directors nationwide, managing a significant operating budget of $68 million. Her leadership positively impacted the lives of 2,000 teachers, 10,000 alumni, 300 staff members, and 200,000 students.
When Michelle is not working, she’s growing her roots in Denver, CO and watching her two daughters turn into powerful, creative, and open-hearted young leaders. She also takes great pride in being recognized as a Pahara Fellow with the Aspen Institute.
