Indicators of what we mean by growing up in a low-income community include, but are not limited to:

• Qualifying for free or reduced price lunch when in elementary, middle, and/or high school.
• Receiving government aid such as supplementary security income, food stamps, TANF (Temporary Assistance for Needy Families), WIC (supplemental nutritional program for women, infants, and children).
• When considering the question of working or volunteering in a low-income community, we encourage you to use your best judgment. If you feel that any of your experiences could be described as having been in a low-income community, you should indicate that on your application.
