Josie Green
Josie Green is Oglala Lakota from the Pine Ridge Reservation. She’s been learning in education since earthside as a daughter, a sister, an auntie, a student and after graduating high school from Tiospa Zina Tribal School she continued this educational journey by receiving her BA at Minnesota State University Moorhead. Immediately after graduation she was a lower elementary teacher at the Spring Creek School, home of the Sicangu Lakota peoples in the Rosebud Reservation, SD.
Now, an Ina (mother) of 2, she has worked along side first and second year teachers in a variety of roles from MTLD to MD of Local Impact and Strategy on the Teach For America South Dakota team. In this most recent role she designs and implements the team's strategy by developing teachers' ability to build and strengthen their own learning and teaching, rooted in radical kinships and critical hope. Josie's work expands teachers' perspectives and knowledge, enabling them to go beyond westernized schooling expectations, honor indigenous ways of knowing, and advance the academic and personal growth of young people in partnership with their communities and families. She hopes to continue to unearth the sustainable and abundant visions of her people by finding and sharing accesses to possibilities.
