Brennan was a 2017 participant in the Teach For America Accelerate Fellowship before starting his senior year at Duke University. At Duke, Brennan served as the music director of the campus gospel choir, a student ambassador for the Office of the President, and a residential advisor on campus.

Brennan graduated with a B.A. in history and African/African-American studies, and a minor in education.

“During Accelerate, I became very in tune with the importance of place when it comes to educational equity work. Specifically, when entering a community that you are not from or familiar with, it is extremely important to understand the way in which social, political, and economic systems work as you are inserting yourself as an advocate for equity both inside and outside of the classroom. With this lens, I came to Memphis with the intention of becoming rooted in the communities that my kids are from. While this can be difficult considering the workload of a first-year teacher, it remains my focus as I increasingly start to feel at home at Memphis.”
